Ethanol, as a renewable energy source, can be used directly as a liquid fuel or as a mixture of gasoline and gasoline, which can reduce the consumption of non renewable energy sources.
As a gasoline additive,it can improve the octane number of gasoline. The oxygen content of ethanol is high up to 34.7%, and the ethanol can be added to the gasoline with less amount of methyl tert butyl ether (MTBE). Adding 7.7% ethanol in gasoline, the oxygen content goes to 2.7%, If adding 10% ethanol, oxygen content can reach 3.5%, so adding ethanol can help gasoline completely burn and to reduce the pollution in the atmosphere.
